St Nicholas, Pilton

In the last 20 years the three farms in the village have closed and barns converted to homes, doubling the size of the village. We now have 16 homes and are no longer the smallest village in the smallest county! St Nicholas Church is located in the middle of our village.

Pilton has seen many important changes over the centuries. The railway line was constructed in the second half of the 19th century. Iron ore was quarried from the surrounding area and there was a brick works to the east of the village. Since the last quarry closed in the 60s & 70s the gaping trenches were infilled by using as a municipal tip.  Now little sign remains and fields have been restored to raise sheep and grow various crops.

The one thing which remains unchanged is St Nicholas Church. Standing in the middle of our village it is a reminder to us all of the generations of villagers who lived and worshipped here before us.
