St Peters, Empingham

St Peter's Church, EmpinghamEmpingham lies on the main road between Stamford and Oakham, and has a population of 767.  The Parish Church of St Peter, is one of the largest churches in Rutland. There is also a Methodist Church in the village which, besides its regular services, holds occasional youth services and events. There is a joint service each year on Remembrance Sunday, alternating between the parish church and the Methodist church. We think that working with the Methodist congregation in Empingham is important. The Post Office sets up every Monday in the Methodist Church.

Empingham CofE Primary SchoolEmpingham Church of England Primary School is voluntary controlled – with a roll currently standing at 75. The village also has a general store and hairdresser, together with a successful public house/hotel. There are flats for the elderly at Beckworth Court, and an ancient “Audit Hall” which is used as the Village Hall.

The village contains a good cross section of people, with some eight farms around it providing local employment; other people in employment tend to work in the surrounding towns, while some commute to London.

The Royal British Legion Branch in Empingham is particularly well supported with over 50 members, and there are many active clubs and facilities in the village, including a Cricket and Social Club with its own hall.

The village's Parish Council provides a wealth of information of what's going on in Empingham.
