Rutland Water Benefice

The Diocese of Peterborough, Deanery of Rutland

'Misty Morning in Rutland'' by Beccie Daft

Welcome to the gateway to the website for the Rutland Water Benefices, comprising the Parishes of Edith Weston, Empingham, Lyndon, Manton, North Luffenham, Pilton, Preston, Ridlington, Whitwell and Wing.

These ten parishes are just a small number in the Deanery of Rutland, part of the Diocese of Peterborough. Each Parish is proud of its history stretching back to the Middle Ages with the churches reflecting the changes in architecture and are well cared for by the people.

If you are planning a visit, we hope you find this information useful and when you do arrive, stay a-while not only to spot the iconic Osprey over the reservoir but sample the history of a rural people who have worshipped in these ten churches continuously for 700+ years.

Our What's On Guide gives a list of events in the Rutland Water Parishes over the coming period, more details can also be found in our Parish Magazine distributed free to each home in the benefice.

Footsteps in Faith - New Year Course on Discipleship
As we leave behind the festive celebrations of the wonderful gift God gave into our world of the infant Christ, it is easy for us to move rapidly forward to the pressures of a New Year, with all there is to plan ahead, leaving behind our gift, wrapped and packed away with all the decorations for another year. The gift we share is given by a generous God, who asks us all to share this with the people around us, but how do we do this in our communities effectively? Understanding the discipleship we are called to share is the beginning, and starting in January, I will be running a short course before Lent to explore this with you. This course is open to everyone in the benefice.
If we find we would like more time, or to meet each week, we can make the appropriate changes, so I hope you will join me as we explore the basis of our faith together, and it would be helpful to let me know if you are able to come.
Michael Ellard.
